Unfortunately, such an example was not findable at the time of this post and so a simple example of a DKIM DNS entry using Network Solutions DNS manager is presented here.

Image of a Correct DKIM record in Network Solutions

There are many sites that explain the function of a DKIM record, in this post, it's a simple example for adding a DKIM record in Network Solutions DNS manager.

Network Solutions offers advanced DNS management tools. Their platform allows for seamless control over your domain's DNS settings, ensuring that your website remains accessible and performs optimally.

A DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) record is a critical component in email security, typically added to a domain's DNS (Domain Name System) records to help prevent email spoofing. By enabling DKIM in your DNS settings, you essentially allow receiving email servers to verify that the messages purportedly from your domain were indeed authorized by the domain's administrators.

Network Solutions Manage DNS DKIM Sample

Locating a simple Network Solution example screen shot or even plain text version of a DKIM record entry was not clean and easy. Many referenced links often would take my browser to a service to create the record and not real steps to adding in Network Solutions. The generators often referenced creating an account and subscribing and paying for a "service". Such services are useful, as they create the server-side portion of the record. That server-side record data contains encryption and all the rest that goes into DKIM.

Since the mailboxes were hosted my Microsoft 365 Exchange online, server-side components were not needed. That's handled my Microsoft - just need to know how to add the DKIM record in Network Solution's DNS manager (yes, it was the first time adding a DKIM).

A simple screenshot for someone a little experienced already with DNS can be so useful.

Selectors can be found with PowerShell connected to Exchange online. Click compatibility, check the box for compatibility mode, change the OS version .

Save, and then run the installer again. It's been part of the MS Windows operating systems since before Windows 10 and present in server additions as well.

The whoami command when run without options will display the currently logged in user account If you are providing remote support, this command is helpful if you are remotely accessing the desktop and troubleshooting an issue that requires knowing the user's SID such as user profile issues.

If your not familiar with the whoami command at all try it out. On a desktop logged in with a Domain account, open a command prompt and then type the command whoami and hit the enter key. The command's output displays just the currently logged in user.

Run the command again (up arrow) and add the simple option /user and it will display the SID of the user like this:

C:\>whoami /user

Display local SID of non-domain user account
If the user is not a domain account, like a desktop at a remote office or home display the local windows account SID use the following command line

wmic useraccount where name='username' get sid

Support and protect your company by using this combination of Azure storage and Veeam's capabilities to utilize the storage helps create a reliable recovery scenario that can cover many of the "what happens if" situations. Situations that are not only imaginable by disasters for those that could be caused by the ongoing daunting threats that some from real-world scenarios like from ransomware.

What if your servers and data was captured ransomware? What do you do? Your backups have also been locked by ransomware and recovery would only be available by an offsite protected copy of your backup data. To better support your company, maintain an offsite copy of your backups.

Veeam not only gives it's admins a way to support their company better by having a secure and reliable method to recover from server failures, virtual servers or physical own hardware servers, but also lets you keep a copy in the cloud.

Chances are you are already using Azure for email through Microsoft 365 online exchange, so access to having a datastore available to have your company survive a crisis is already there. You may have to expand your subscription to include the required amount of storage , but that requires very little effort to do.

Creating storage for Veeam to offsite backups is straight forward. It's a generic generation 2 blob. Nothing fancy, nothing special. Standard performance because it's an offsite backup and won't require high end speed because it's not live data. The blob is all defaults. You'll just have to give the storage account a name and create a new resource group, and of course select your subscription. The process is simple on Azure. Take note of the key generated for the blob, because that has to be entered into the Veeam configuration. Follow this Veeam guide, it worked for my company:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/azure_repository_name.html?ver=110

Once you have the Azure storage setup, again it is a default storage blob, you need for Veeam configuration:

To add Microsoft Azure Blob storage, do the following:
<blockquote style="border: none; Auto-start Apache httpd service at boot time

The process and steps are simple and straight forward.

Let's look for the status of httpd to see whether is is setup to auto-start with the system during reboot , restarts, etc.
1. Run the command chkconfig --list | grep http .
For the output, you will see a series of OFF settings as shown in the accompanying images.

2. Run the command chkconfig httpd on
There is no output to this command.
If completed successful, ie. no errors, the command prompt is returned on the next line.

3. Run the command from step 1 again to confirm, chkconfig --list | grep http

In step 1 we saw a series of OFFs, after set to on we see ONs instead

How to Manage AD from Member Server

This was once a default option for Windows member servers in an organization's domain. An administrator user in the domain was able to click Start then Run then type in ad.msc and start Microsoft Active Directory Users and Computers from a member server in the domain. This feature was useful indeed and was removed as a default with Windows Server 2008.

For administrators that are looking to enable remote management of Active Directory from a member server there is a simple way to add this functionally to a member 2008 and 2008 R2 server in the domain. It is done by installing Remote Server Administration Tools for AD DS.

Remotely Access Active Directory from Another Server

When an administrator installs Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) on a member server to create a new or additional domain controller, tools that are used to manage AD DS are installed automatically. To manage Active Directory domain controllers remotely from another server or a Windows desktop operating system that is not a domain controller, Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) can be installed on a member server that is running Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008. RSAT can also be installed on a computer that is running running Windows 7 or Windows 8. The Active Directory Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) component that's used to access and manage AD Directory Services is Active Directory Domain Services Tools.

Installing Remote Server Administration Tools for AD DS

Active Directory Domain Services Tools on a member server

Open Server Manager on the member server and click Add Features.

In Features, check the box to expand Remote Service Administration Tools and Role Administration Tools:

Windows Server 2008 member server:

Expand Active Directory Domain Services Tools, and then click Active Directory Domain Controllers Tools.

Windows Server 2008 R2 member server:

Expand AD DS and AD LDS Tools, then expand AD DS Tools, and then click AD DS snap-ins and command-line tools.

Click Next and then click Install. The setup wizard will install the necessary files and create the shortcust to manage Active Directory (AD) from this member server.

The Active Directory Domain Services Administration Tools are available on the Administrative Tools menu.

In some cases even before a reboot of the server is performed , you can run the active directory suers and computers management console AD.msc by clicking Start > Run > then typing AD.msc , then click open.

Installing Active Directory Domain Services Tools on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows 8

Windows 7 and Windows 8 does not ship with RSAT installation files as does Windows Server 2008. To install RSAT on Windows 7 or Windows 8, you must first download the RSAT installation package. See Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 and Windows 8 at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=167131

Enable Faster Active Directory AD and DNS Replication Updates Between Sites

Although for some newer administrators making changes to Active Directory could be a nerve rattling proposition, making this change to speed up active directory replication can only be accomplished using this method. Using the standard GUI Microsoft Management Consoles to make the change to speed up Active Directory replication is not possible. The best result of using administrator consoles will be to increase domain replication between domain controllers to 15 minutes. These large time values were instituted into Active Directory at version 1 because inter-site connections during that era of computing and networking were much lower in bandwidth with the most common being frame-relay or 56k circuits. Since then, inter-site connections and the Internet speeds have increased tremendously so faster domain controller replication is possible even over wan links. This and many other Microsoft domain related issues can often be addressed remotely using online computer support software. That's software that provides remote control of servers and desktops online through the web. Access can also be accomplished on the LAN but often over the web. Online desktop support application are often agent based but can also be on-demand.

Resource Already Exists error Citrix Netscaler

When replacing or updating an SSL certificate on a Netscaler VPX version 10 appliance you get a Resource Already Exists error message. even when you try to add the certificate as a new certificate bypassing the update option in the Netscaler the message persists.

This can be caused by the same serial number or thumbprint on the re-issued certificate. This scenario is rare and most often occurs if there are two or more Netscalers in a load balance fail over configuration.

Oddly enough , this error can also occur if there is a problem with the SSL certificate itself. The cert can be from any CA and although it seemingly looks okay, closer inspection will reveal the certificate was generated with SHA2 encryption algorithm. Have the certificate re-issued using SHA1. The Netscaler version 10 does not support SHA2 for SSL certs on virtual servers yet. Most likely, Netscaler 9 also does not support SHA1.

Contact your CA certificate provider and ask them to re-issue the certificate but generate it using SHA1 .

Create Network Printers at Logon With vbs and Batch File

The following vbs script can be run from a batch file like a logon.bat file that you may already have in your NETLOGON folder. Or simply create a new one. Be sure to add the logon.bat to your users' account profiles in AD. You'll need to get the fmember exe from Microsoft, or you may already have it.

Set WshNetwork = CreateObject("WScript.Network")

Set objShell = CreateObject("Wscript.Shell")

WSHNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "N:", \\DC01\Netlogon

WshNetwork.RemovePrinterConnection \\PrintServer01\Printer1
WshNetwork.RemovePrinterConnection \\PrintServer01\Printer2

strCommand = "%comspec% /c N:\IfMember.exe FirstFloor"
intReturn = objShell.Run(strCommand, 2, True)
If intReturn = 1 Then

WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection \\PrintServer01\Printer1
WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter \\PrintServer01\Printer1

End If

strCommand = "%comspec% /c N:\IfMember.exe SecondFloor"
intReturn = objShell.Run(strCommand, 2, True)
If intReturn = 1 Then

WshNetwork.AddWindowsPrinterConnection \\PrintServer01\Printer2
WshNetwork.SetDefaultPrinter \\PrintServer01\Printer2

End If

WshNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "N:"

The above logon vbs script works great but you may encounter and issue with Windows 7 computers.

For Windows 7 use the following in a batch file:

@echo off

rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /ga /n \\dc01\Printer-duplex

exit

The above will add a printer at the machine level quietly - No user messages. If run without the quiet switch, the user will will see a message indicating the printer already exists upon logon. The first user will not see the message of course when the entry is first added to the logon script. I used a .cmd file.

PRINTUI.EXE can be used instead of RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry on Windows 7 but then you'll have to add some conditional code to determine if the user is loging in from a windows 7 computer or not.
Most Category 5 cables, were designed for earlier networks replacing cat 3, only used two twisted pairs of wires. However, older Category 5 cabling continues to make up the majority of the world’s network cabling infrastructure.

Category 5e was later introduced as an improved specification to the very popular Category 5 that replaced Cat 3. The improvement was in noise reduction. By reducing the noise and signal interference beyond Cat 5, Category 5e rated transfer speeds increased to 350 Mbit/s over 100 meters. The new 5e cabling standard however also required all the cabling to include four twisted pairs not just two like with Cat 5. All eight contacts has to be used. Cat 5e introduced and optimized encoding scheme that allows up to 50-meter lengths of Category 5e cable to provide at or near Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) speeds. Cat 6e transmits at 250 MHz. The new Category 6 cable uses thicker-gauge wire to attain the higher frequencies, it has increased shielding, and more pair twists per inch to reduce signal noise and interference. The new tighter specifications introduced with Cat 6 cabling guarantee that 100-meter runs of Category 6 are capable of 1000 Mbit/s transfer speeds. As with 5e reducing the cable length can achieve higher speeds than the category types design goal so 10-Gigabit Ethernet speeds can be achieved when reducing cable lengths to less than 50 meters.

Enabling SSH remote access to the console of an esxi 5.0 vmware host server is the same as in ESXi 4.1 (not 4.0 and earlier). In 5.0 vmware vSphere ESXi and 4.1 vmware vSphere ESXi it can be accomplished using the vSphere client. With earlier versions, like enabling SSH on ESXi 4.0, it had to be done via the server console.

How to Enable SSH Access on VMWare 5 ESXi

Enable SSH for remote connections from the vSphere Client
perform the following short steps to enable access to the ESXi Shell using the vSphere Client:
- Logon to the up to date VSphere client
- Select from the list of hosts the ESXi host you want to configure and choose Configuration then -> Security profile
- From the Services section under Security Profile, select Properties
- Select the SSH option in Properties and choose Options
- Select Start to start SSH on the host.
- Repeat the process for each ESXi 5 host.

There is no global or farm-like setting that would allow you to do all your hosts at once. Perhaps that will come in the next version ESXi 6 .
The drivers corrupt very quickly. I was involved in a Citrix Xenapp 6 deployment, a small deployment, of six servers. The installation was fresh so there was no history to be brought into the mix and be factored in as a collateral cause. Xenapp was installed on 6 new virtual 2008 R2 servers (The virtual architecture was VMWare 4.1) . It was a new Citrix xenapp farm and the server 2008 R2 server had all the OS updates. The xenapp servers ha the following hotfixes:

The Citrix Online-Plugin was updated through the office to version 12 of the full plug-in. All desktops were XP. The goal was to add session printers through Citrix policies. What printers were added depended on the location the user was in. If they were in office location A they would get a certain number and type of printers. If they were in location B they would get another different set of printers and so on. The policy used the ip address of the client as the method to determine the location. That worked well. Session printer creation worked well in all tests before the app went live. Apparently, the one thing I can conclude is there was not enough load on the server to be an issue. Once the office had gone live with their published applications, within a week there very strange things happening. Printers that were not supposed to be part of the session were listed. Ghost or phantom printers that were in the session and did not belong could not even be printed to. The users would get access denied messages. The logs on the server were riddled with errors. Default printers were being set to these ghost or phantom printers and even when changed , they would just revert back. Then, there was no consistency either as to what "extra" printer would appear in the session at each login.
The problem was traced down to the HP Universal driver. Yes, it was the latest release from HP and yes all printers were on the supported printer list from Citrix.
The tool that was used to test the printer drivers was StressPrint. The driver was removed and re-installed. All seemed well for a few days and then the problem arose again. Of course this time the driver was removed and printer specific drivers were used.2centshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09067637557254322002noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5079986004252824176.post-79689888667919058632011-11-24T05:50:00.000-08:002022-06-14T08:27:43.228-07:00IP SLA Monitor Example for Fail-over Survivability of ISP
Configure ASA to allow traceroute responses

Technical issues with Cisco routers and switches can also be resolved remotely with software that facilitates connection through the web. Online desktop support software gives technical support teams that access. Cisco IP SLA MONITOR example configuration. The IP address have been changed but this is a working configuration I just recently implemented. This office, actually and remote office with warehouse, has a T1 line they wanted a custom application to use exclusively but also had a DSL that was connected to a Cisco ASA 5505 (it could have been a Cisco 5510 or other). The ASA was also on the same LAN. The idea was simple, if the T1 fails, use the DSL for the custom application to connect to an online database source and server.
There are two tracker objects in a tracker list. The list uses a boolean AND,
track 10 rtr 20 reachability --> a ping to a target ip address for which there is ONLY a single static route to use the T1. This differs wit hthe IP SLA MONITOR vs. the IP SLA (with no MONITOR option available. Here, we had to use RTR instead of specifying the ip SLA number itself))
track 11 interface Serial0/1/0:0 line-protocol --> Interface status
track 20 list boolean and --> boolean AND, boolean AND means all conditions conditions have to be true , almost seems redundant but TAC did it this way on another remote office router.

You can create the router using the next hop router for the T1 connection, or the route can be built by specifying the interface to source the ping from such as S0/1/0:0 on this router, or source the ping from the "inside" interface) So if there is a problem with the T1 the pings will time out.

"You cannot log on to the console because the server is not synchronized with the database. Upgrade the server and then log on to the console"

Symantec management server console problem. This problem arose from an upgrade that did not complete. the upgrade of Symantec's management console was to version 11.0.5. The installation went near the end but did not complete as it was looking for the old version's installation media that was not available.
When the management console was started and the attempt to login was made the message "You cannot log on to the console because the server is not synchronized with the database. Upgrade the server and then log on to the console" was displayed. The remote console would not open.
There was a solution or two available from Symantec. One of which was to change the account he services use to use the administrator account and not the Local System account. this did not help. Un-installing was not an option because that would cause all the clients to get un-managed because the database would be empty at the re-installation. Although someone with more knowledge or experience with manipulating the build-in Symantec database may be able to use the re-installation method. I opted for an undocumented approach and that was to rung the installation of the original version.

Symantec Management Server Console Problem

The source media was found since this problem first started and running the installation solved the problem and another surprising benefit was that the management console had completed the upgrade. Clicking about from within the management console showed that the version was the upgraded version of the software.
Hope this post helps someone out. Good luck.

I checked this with another 2003 exchange email server to be close to sure of that being correct. It too has the system service, not an IIS service, with process id of 4 listening on 80 and 443.

I changed the port the default web site uses on the problem outlook web acess (OWA) web server to 81, restarted the services. Still couldn't connect with localserver:81 but now telnetting to port 80 worked. Just get a blank line is displayed when telnetting to port 80 (II6) unlike smtp that sends some text. Before the change to 81 for the default web site, the error returned by telnetting to port 80 was "connection refused". Changed the IIS default web site back to 80 saved, restarted the IIS service again and the default page loads and the OWA page also loads. As of now, no reboot of the server is required. Hope the fix holds.

Could try this solution on other servers that have IIS not responding and of course leads to OWA not working. Don't know if the same solution applies to 2008 server with exchange 2007 or 2003 server with exchange 2007 but some varient of the steps might just do the same.

This exchange 2003 server's access via port 80 (default web browser port) was working fine then suddenly IIS and OWA stopped working. I've seen this all too often over the years and ussually meant the server had to be rebooted.

PC Tech Go - Blog Home
Permanent link to this post - Get outlook web access (owa) working without server reboot

2centshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09067637557254322002noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5079986004252824176.post-31974238833513822862009-07-19T06:41:00.000-07:002009-07-19T07:01:44.073-07:00Disable IE Enhanced Security on 2008 ServerDisable IE Enhanced Security on 2008 Server

Disable IE Enhanced Security on 2008 Server

Well, as with many other things, the method to remove the IE Enhanced Security Configuration from 2008 windows server has moved. It was once easily found in the familiar Add/Remove programs applet through control panel and clicking on windows components would reveal additional options installed by the the OS for specific functions or roles of the server to operate. Now, it's moved to server manager in Windows Server 2008.

Windows Server 2008 installs by default with the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security enabled. So if you noticed, the Add/Remove programs in Control Panel is no longer used for adding and removing any Microsoft windows Server operating components. For so many years it was in that location, found through control panel but now it has changed with the new face of Windows Server 2008 so we all need to get used to as we've done for many other changes.

Server Manager is now used for managing Server Components, mainly throught the Roles and Features nodes, but IE Enhanced security is not listed here either. Remove IE Enhanced

Security with Server Manager:

Start -> Administrative Tools -> Server Manager
The root node is highlighted, in the right column, under the Security Information heading, click Configure IE ESC
Disable IE ESC for Administrators and/or Users

Having the enhanced security applied to the browser by default on servers is a nice thing to have. Many of us however do use the browser on the server to find driver updates and other things we need to perform tasks on the server wicthout the extra security nag.

Disable with Script or Registry Edit:

There will be a need somewhere to disable the Enhanced security feature of Windows server 2008 by using a script based method for automation of the process or by manully making the edits in the registry. Disable 2008's enhanced security using a script or a direct manual registry edit is through a registry setting that the GUI modifies. Specifically the IEHardenAdmin and IEHardenUser, so you could use a simple script to modify this setting.
